There is a line in a popular song some time back. It expresses perhaps the most passionate wishes of lovers. It goes something like this: “You’re mine, all mine, now and forever….”
When two people fall in love, deeply in love, they get that certain feeling of security. They think themselves so very fortunate to have been brought by coincidence or by force of circumstances. While in a midst of experiencing all the intense emotions that are the ingredients of true love, lovers fell that their love is indestructible and will last till their dying days.
Well, things are just not so. With love, reality is harsh and hard. The truth of the matter is that countless love relationships are shattered every day all over the world. Every hour, there are courtships spinning out of control, friendships going sour, and relationships crashing onto the rocks.
This is cold, raw reality which can hardly be denied. As a result, disappointments, heartaches, and heartbreaks abound. I’m sure that if you are sensitive and care enough to look around, you can easily see many people whose dreams and expectations in love have been shattered. And you will find people whose hearts have been broken more than once because of a love that failed to work out.
Perhaps one of the reasons people are emotionally brought to their knees by unsuccessful love relationships is that far too many think that, once they have found their true love, things must last forever. Maybe it’s because they refuse to accept the very real possibility of a breakup. Consequently, they don’t guard their love with the attention that it demands. They get careless and overconfident. And before long, although things are going out of control, they don’t accept the reality of what’s happening. Then everything simply explodes and the parties involved wonder what happened. Love is a delicate plant. It needs twenty-four-hours-a-day care. And unless it is carefully guarded, it dies a terrible painful death.
